宮沢賢治の「銀河鉄道の夜」
The Night of Milky Way Train by Kenji Miyazawa
以前、宮沢賢治の「雨にも負けず」についてお話ししましたが、今日は彼の別の作品、1934年に出版された「銀河鉄道の夜」についてお話ししたいと思います。
I talked about Unbeaten by Rain by Kenji Miyazawa before, though, today I would like to talk about another of his writing, The Night of Milky Way Train which was published in 1934.
主人公のジョバンニは、家が貧乏で病気のお母さんのために学校に行きながら働いていました。
The main character, Giovanni, works after school for his poor and sick mother.
そして、そんな彼をザネリという男の子を中心にクラスメートみんながいじめます。
His classmates, mainly a bully called Zanelli bully Giovanni.
しかし、彼の幼馴染のカムパネルラだけは彼を気にかけ優しくしますが、ジョバンニと長いこと話をしていませんでした。
However, his childhood friend, Campanella, cares for him and is kind to him, though, he has not talked to him for long time.
毎日辛くて孤独な生活を送っているジョバンニは仕事のあと丘で寝てしまうのですが、その時、宇宙につながる鉄道がやってきて、その電車に乗ります。
Jovanni, who is struggling and lonely everyday, sleeps on the hill. Then, a train from space comes to him and he boards the train.
電車に乗ると、なぜかびしょ濡れになった幼馴染のカムパネルラも乗っていました。
When he rides the train, his childhood friend Campanella was also there though he was wet.
いろんな人がその列車に乗ってきて、彼らの話を聞き、人生について考えされられます。とても哲学的なストーリーです。
Many people get on the train, and they listen to their stories, and it makes them think about life. It’s a very philosophical story.
最終的には、人間関係をうまくできずに孤独なジョバンニでしたが、本当の幸せを求めていきていくことにします。
In the end, although he had a lot of trouble dealing with human relationships, he decides to find true happiness.
列車が元の駅に着いた頃、カムパネルラがいなくなっていました。そこでジョバンニは目が覚めます。
When the train arrives at the station where he got on, Campanella was gone. Then, he wakes up.
そして、人だかりができているのを見つけました。いじめっ子のザネリが川で溺れているのをカムパネルラが助けて、そのまま彼だけが川に流されて死んでしまったようでした。
Then, he found a crowed place. Campanella saved the bully, Zanelli who was drowning in the river, then, Campanella died.
列車に乗ってきたカムパネルラがびしょ濡れだったのは、こういう理由だったのです。
That’s why Campanella was wet when he got on the train.
話は変わって、日本のアニメの「銀河鉄道９９９」を見たことがありますか？
Meanwhile, have you ever watched “Galaxy Express ９９９”?
もしあなたが私の年代だったら、あなたの国でみたことがあるかもしれません。
If you are close to my age, you might have watched it in your country.
私はスペイン人の義理の弟ダニエルと同じ年なのですが、彼も小さい頃スペインで「銀河鉄道９９９」をテレビで見ていたそうです。
My Spanish brother-in-law, Daniel, is the same age with me, though, he had seen “Galaxy Express ９９９” on TV in Spain when he was small as well.
「Galaxy Express ９９９」のアニメの内容は、ロボットが牛耳る世の中が生身の人間を殺していくのですが、哲郎をかばって彼のお母さんが銃で撃たれて死んでしまいます。そして、傷心の哲郎はお母さんにそっくりな美しい女性、メーテルと出会い、一緒に「永遠の命（ロボットの体）」をもらいにいく宇宙の鉄道のたびに出ます。
The story of the anime “999 of Milky Way Train” goes like this. The Robots control the world and kill humans. Mother of the main character, Tetsuro, was shot to save Tetsuro. Then, the heartbroken Tetsuro saw a beautiful lady Maetel who resembles his mom, and left earth on a rail trip to find “eternal life” (Robot body) together.
鉄道は宇宙を飛んで、一つ一つの惑星に止まります。そこで色々なエピソードが
あり、「ロボットになって永遠の命をもらうことはいいことなのか」という疑問を持ちます。
The train flies in the space, and stops at each planet. There are many episode there, and Tetsuro started wondering, “Is it the best thing to become robot and have eternal life?”.
ネタバレになりますが、ロボットの世界を作った人間は哲郎のお父さんだったことがわかり、ダーズベーダーのような父とレーザビームの剣で戦う、というだいぶスターウォーズをパクった内容です。
Although this is the spoiler, Tetsuro finds out that the person who made the robot world was his father, then, he fights with him with laser beam swords, that is like a copy of “Star Wars”.
スターウォーズにも似ているんですが、原作者は宮沢賢治の「銀河鉄道の夜」をイメージしたものだと認めています。
It resembles “Star Wars”, though, the creator of the anime admits that he based it off of The Night of Milky Way Train.
私たち世代は６歳や７歳の頃にこういうアニメで「哲学」を学んでいた気がします。今２０歳くらいの日本人の子供の頃は「セーラームーン」や「ポケモン」を見ていたというのに！
I feel like our generation learned “philosophy” when we were 6 or 7 years old by watching anime. Current Japanese teenagers have seen “Sailer Moon” or “Pokemon” though!
ちなみに、「ドラゴンボール」は私が小学生の頃のアニメですよ。
By the way, I watched “Dragon Ball” when I was an elementary student.
