今日は和製英語を使ったダジャレを紹介します。
Today, I am introducing dajare (Japanese Pun) using Japanese English!
ダジャレは、昭和時代の古いジョークです。
Dajare is old fashioned Showa-era jokes.
日本では、ダジャレを言うと、シーン、、、となるという危険がいつも伴います。
In Japan, there are always risks that dajare leave people cold.
今日は、そんな危険を避ける方法も一緒に説明したいと思います。
Today, I would like to explain how to avoid it as well.
まず、ダジャレを紹介します。
First, let me just tell you some dajare.
「車が壊れた、マァ、イッカ～？(My car)」
My car is broken. “Maa,iika” (sounds like “my car”)! In Japanese “maa iika” means “It’s Okay”.
「犬の心臓ドッグンドッグン(Dog’n Dog’n)」
“Dog’s heart pounds, Dog’n Dog’n” (Onomatopoeia expressing a heart pounding)
「猫がキャッと驚いた (Cats) 」
“A surprised cat said ‘Kya’!” (“Kya” sounds like Cat). Japanese woman say, “Kya!” when they are surprised.
「空は青いですかい？(sky)」
“Desukai sky blue?” (Desukai? De-sky?) Desukai means “is it?” and sounds like “de-sky”
「お金ほしいの？」 「まーねぇー(Money)」
“Do you want money?” “Maa ne” (Money) Money sounds like “maa ne” / “well, yes.”
そして、ここでどうやったら、シーンとしないで笑ってもらうか？
Then, how can you make people laugh and avoid the cricket sound?
一つ目、ダジャレを言うと決めたなら、恥ずかしがらずに、思いっきり大きい声で言うこと。
No. 1. When you say dajare, don’t be shy. Say it out loud!
二つ目、日本には、”ボケとツッコミ”という漫才文化があります。英語で言うと、”funny man” と “straight man” ですね。
No. 2. In Japan, there is a manzai culture called “Boke and Tsukkomi.” It’s like funny man and straight man.
一人がバカなこと、ここでいう、ダジャレ、を言って、もう一人がそれに対してバカにする、というものです。
You say stupid dajare, then, someone accuses it.
だから、ダジャレを言いたい時は、友達に、”お願い、僕がボケたら、ツッコんで”と言っておきましょう。
So, when you want to say dajare, ask your friend to be a tsukkomi.
具体的に言うと、ツッコミの友達に、こういってもらいます。”しょーもな！！” しょうもない、どうしようもない、stupid みたいな感じです。
Your tsukkomi role friend should say “Sho-mona!!”. “Shomona!” means, “it’s so stupid!”
それで、そのやりとりを聞いた人は笑ってくれます。
Then, people are going to laugh at your boke and tsukkomi.
私は勇気を持ってダジャレを言う人、大好きです。
I like people who say dajare with courage.

(1) 〜たり、〜たりする
Do you remember, when you connect two sentences, you use “tari-form”.
Ex.)
食べて、飲む。
I eat and drink.
This sentence suggests that eating and drinking are the only activities you do.
When you want to mention activities or events just as examples, and in no set order, you say “〜たり、〜たりする”.
〜たり、〜たりする
Do this do that among other things.
（Short form past tense） り、（Short form past tense）りする。
Ex.) 食べたり、飲んだりする。
I eat and drink, among other things.
Do you remember how to form “Short form past tense”?

(2)〜ことがある
Short form past tense ＋ことがある
have the experience of ~
Ex.)
I have been to Japan.
日本に行ったことがあります。
I have had this snack.
このお菓子を食べたことがあります。
I have never talked with her.
彼女と話したことがありません。
I have never read this book.
この本を読んだことがありません。
If somebody asks you a questions using ことがありますか, you can just say ”あります/ ありません” or repeat the whole sentences, “Shor form past sense + ことがあります / ことがありません“.
Have you been to Japan?
日本に行ったことがありますか？
Yes, I have.
はい、あります。
or
はい、行ったことがあります。
(3) Noun A や Noun B
You know how to say “Dog and cat”
いぬ と ねこ.
When you say,
いぬ や ねこ
It suggests “Dog and cat” as example.
A や B = A and B, for example
Ex.)
京都や大阪に行きました。
I went to Kyoto and Osaka (for example, and may have visited other places as well).
学校で、英語や数学を勉強しています。
I study English and Math (for example, among other subjects).
