日本に来て、一ヶ月経ちましたが、やっと在留カードをもらえました！
Though a month has passed since I moved to Japan, I finally got a resident visa!
私は、アメリカ国籍を持っていますが、日本は二重国籍を認めていないので、アメリカ人として日本で生きているんですよー。
Since I have an American citizenship, I live in Japan as an American since Japan does not allow people to have dual citizenship.
でも、全く問題ないです。
But there is no problem.
日本の健康保険は安いです。私の場合、なんと、月に８００円です。それで国が医療費の７０％払ってくれるのですが、元々の請求がアメリカに比べると全然安いので自己負担は少ないです。
Japan’s national medical insurance is very reasonable. In my case, I pay only 800 yen (about $8) a month. Then, the Japanese government pay 70% of my medical bills. Originally the medical bill is not so expensive compared with America’s, so payment out-of-pocket is very low.
その点が日本に住んで、いいことの一つですね。
That’s one reason why I think Japan is a great place to live in.
労働ビザがもらえたので、日本語教師修行にオンサイト日本語学校で週３日くらい働こうかと思っています。
I got a working visa, so I am planning to work at an on-site Japanese school about three days a week.
来週の月曜日に面接で、模擬レッスンをするんですよ。生徒は日本で働くビジネスマンが多いのですが、月に1000ドルくらいする結構高い学校です。
I will have a job interview tomorrow, then, I will do a sample lesson. The students are mostly businessmen who work in Japan. The tuition is about $1000 a month.
15分くらいの模擬レッスンを二回するのですが、日本に来て一年くらいのアメリカ人、イギリス人ビジネスマンの生徒に教えるという設定です。
The setting is two 15 minute lessons for an American businessman and a British businessman who have been in Japan for a year.
This lesson is connected to Genki 2 Lesson (12) P 102 〜ていただけませんか、〜てくれませんか？、〜てくれない？
There are three new ways to make request.
They differ in the degrees of politeness shown to the person you are asking.
〜ていただけませんか？ (polite)
〜てくれませんか？
〜てくれない？(casual)
We use the te-form of a verb + いただけませんか to make a polite request.
This is more appropriate than ください when you request a favor from a nonpeer or from a stranger.
All of them are negative form question. (Can’t you wait, can you? )
You can make it positive form as well.
ちょっと待っていただけますか？
ちょっと待てくれますか？
ちょっと待ってくれる？
Today’s dialogue
マイケルさんは人材派遣会社での面接練習が終わり、会社での就職面接に行くことになりました。
Michael finished the job interview training at the HR Company, Duda, and he is going to a job interview.

マイケルさんの家に電話がかかってきました。
Michael got a phone call.
ひろみ：マイケル〜、電話を取ってくれない？
Hiromi: Michael, can you answer the phone?
マイケル：了解！ ”はい、田中です。（マイケルの名前の登録は奥さんの苗字です）”
Michael: Got it! “Yes, it’s Tanaka.” (Michael’s family name is registered as his wife’s family name)
相田：あ、マイケルさん。デューダの相田です。
Aida: Oh, Michael-san, this is Aida from Doda.
マイケル：あ、相田さん。いつもお世話になります。
Michael: Oh, Aida-san. Thank you for support as always. (Hello).
相田：こちらこそ。今日、一つの会社から就職面接のオファーが来ているのですが、明日の2時に面接に行ってくれますか？
Aida: Likewise. You got an job interview offer from a company today. Can you go to the interview at 2 PM?
マイケル：明日ですか？はい、大丈夫です。どんな会社か教えていただけませんか？
Michael: Tomorrow? Yes, I can go. Could you tell me what kind of company it is?
相田：はい、再生エネルギーの会社で、パイプ設計のエンジニアを探しています。会社の概要については、後でメールで送ります。
Aida: Sure, it’s a renewable energy company, and they are looking for pipe architect engineer. I will send you information about the company later by e-mail.
マイケル：なるほど。以前ガス会社で工場のパイプ設計をしたことがありますから、僕にぴったりの仕事ですね。
Michael: I see. I did pipe architecture at an gas company before, so it’s the right position for me.
そちらの会社に、面接に行きたいと言っていただけますか？
Could you tell them that I would like to take the job interview?
相田：了解です。頑張ってくださいね！練習の通りに面接を受ければ、きっと受かりますよ！
Aida: Certainly. Do your best! You will get it if you do like the practice!
マイケル：はい、ありがとうございます！お電話ありがとうございました。それでは、
失礼します。
Michael: Yes, thank you! Thank you for your call. Then, good-bye.
