(74) 〜のに・〜のような・〜のように

今日も雑談から始めます。何を言っているか、聞いてみてください。
I am going to start with “Random Talk” today too. Please try to grasp what I said.

Today’s random talk
私は７月中旬に銀行をやめて日本に引っ越すことにしました。日本には毎年遊びに行っていますが、住むのは20年ぶりです。
I decided to quit my bank in middle of July and go back to Japan. Although I visit Japan almost every year, I am going to live in Japan after it has been twenty years.
日本に行ったら、何をしたいだろう？
What I want to do in Japan?
まず、美味しいものが食べたい！
First of all, I want to eat something delicious!
また、温泉に行きたい！
Also, I want to go to hot springs.
あとは、お寺、神社巡りをしたいですね。日本語では 最近それを”スピリチュアル巡り”、と言います。
Then, I would like to visit shrines and temples. In Japanese, we call it “Spiritual tour” recently.
ただ、私はフェイスブックもしないし、アメリカに長く住んで日本の友達には連絡しなくなったので、日本に友達が全然いません。（笑）
However, I don’t have private Facebook account, and I haven’t contacted with my friends in Japan, so I don’t have any friends in Japan. (Lol).
あと私は、株を買うのが好きなので、銀行でフルタイムで働かなくなったら、もっと決算発表前に株を調べて、株があがる前に買う、などということもできます。
And I like buying stocks, so if I don’t need to work as a full time worker at Bank, I can have time to research stock that would boost before financial result announcement.
最近は仮想通貨も結構買っています。そのうち仮想通貨はみんな普通に使うようになるでしょうね。
Recently I buy digital coins as well. I guess people use digital coins in daily life.
半年くらいは、日本語ビジネスだけに力を入れて、お金が足りなくなったら日本の銀行かどこかで働くかもしれません。
I will focus on Japanese business for the first six months, then, if I did not have enough money, I might work at a Japanese Bank or something.
最初の半年は、ウィークリーレッスンやユーチューブ以外にも、前にしていたitalki.comなどでバイトをするかもしれません。
For the first six months, I might work at italic.com that I used to do as part time job other than this weekly lesson or youtube.
あと、日本で喫茶店とかでプライベートレッスンなどもバイトでしようかと思っています。
Also, I might do one- on-one lesson face to face at cafe in Japan.

はい、今日は、”〜のに・〜のような・〜のように” を 勉強します。
＜〜のに＞
“A ” のに “B (any form)”
“A”, but contrary to expectations, “B” , too”
のに connects two facts, A and B, which hold in spite of the expectation that if A is the case, B is not to be the case, “A のに B”, therefore means “A, but contrary to expectations, B, too” or “B, despite the fact A”.
他の言い方をすると、”A のはずなのに、なぜか現実はB！なんでだ？”と言う感じです。
In other words, It’s like, “I think it’s supposed to be “A”, however, the reality is ‘B”. Why?
“A ” のに “B (any form)”
（１）Verb A： Short form （食べた） ＋ のに
さっき食べた のに お腹すいた。
Although I ate earlier, I am already hungry.
（２）な adjective： 静かな ＋ のに
彼女は静かな のに カラオケが好きです。
She is quiet (observed), however, she likes Karaoke.
（３）い adjective： かわいい ＋ のに
彼女はかわいい のに 彼氏がいない。
Although she is pretty, she does not have boyfriend.
（４）Noun: 日本人 ＋ な ＋ のに
彼は日本人 な のに すしが嫌いです。
Although he is Japanese, he does not like Sushi.

I am a good-looking guy, however, I am not popular from girls.
俺はかっこいい のに、女子にモテない。
Although I studied Japanese that much, I failed JLPT N1. Why!?
あんなに日本語勉強をした のに、JLPTのN１に落ちた。なんでだ！？
He is so manly, though, he loves Hello Kitty.
彼はとても男らしい のに、ハローキティが大好きです。
はい、納得がいかないことがあったら、ぜひ、”〜のに” を使って、日本語でつぶやいてみてください。
OK then, when you encountered something you don’t get the reality, please tweet it in Japanese using ”〜のに”.
＜〜のような＞
A のような B
“B (noun) ” like/similar to A ( noun)”
Both A and B are nouns.
雪 のような 白い肌 になりたい。
I wish I have white skin like snow.
スーパーマン のような 強い男 になりたい。
I wish I could be a strong man like the “Superman”.
ワンダーウーマン のような セクシーで強い女 になりたい。
I wish I could be a sexy and strong woman like the “Wonder Woman”.
＜〜のように＞
You use “noun A のように” when you want to describe an action which is “done in the same way as A” or a characteristic” which is comparable to A”.
In other words,
when “B” is “noun”, ような is used.
when “B” is “action or characterisitc (verb or adjective)”, ように is used.
A のような B (noun)
A のように B (verb)
私は、チーターのように早く走れる。
I can run fast like cheetah.
俺は、スーパーマンのように、強い。
I am strong like Super-man.
私は、ワンダーウーマンのように、セクシーで強い です。
I am sexy and strong like Wonder-woman.
