今日は、とうとうゲンキ２の最後のレッスンです。
Finally it’s the last lesson of Genki 2.

来月からは、新しい中級上級クラス、もっと使える日本語会話！クラスです。
Starting next month, new intermediate/advanced class! More useful Japanese conversation!
ゲンキ２の最初のレッスン（４１）にリンクさせます。
It will be linked/related to the first Genki 2 lesson (41).
今までゲンキ２クラスの一番最初のクラスを（４１）と呼んでいましたが、わかりづらいので、（４１）は（１）から数え直しにします。
I have been referring to the first lesson of Genki 2 as (41), however, for ease of understanding, I will renumber the Genki 2 lessons beginning with (1).
ゲンキ２クラス（４１）がゲンキ２（１）になって、それが、新しい”中級上級クラス”の（１）にリンクします。
Genki 2 (41) will become Genki 2 (1), and that first lesson will be linked with the new intermediate/advanced class (1).
つまり、ゲンキ２（１）クラスで勉強した文法を新しいクラス（１）で勉強する会話の中に入れます。
In other words, I will include the grammar that we learned in Genki 2 (1) into the new class (1).
これからは、もっと使える日本語会話を勉強します。

“Causative-passive” sentences are the passive version of causative sentences.

Causative Sentences Review
“Make” or “let” someone do something.
[Director] は [Cast] に [Action]
* When the [Director] is in the first person (me/私), it is often omitted.
How to make “causative sentences”
(Ru-verb)
Drop the final “-ru” and add “-saseru”
食べる ⇒ 食べさせる
私は子供に野菜を食べさせる
I make my kid eat vegetables.
私は娘の誕生日だけは、甘いものをたくさん食べさせる
I only let my daughter eat a lot of sweets on her birthday.
(U-verb)
Drop the final “-u” and add “-aseru”.
行く ⇒ 行かせる
弟に、アイスクリームを買いに行かせる。
I make my younger brother go to buy ice cream.
娘がアメリカに行きたいというので、行かせた。
My daughter says she wants to go to America, so I let her.
Causative-Passive Sentences
[Cast] is made to do [Action] by [Director]
[Cast] は [Director] に [Action]
* If [Cast] is in the first person (me/私), it is often omitted.
How to make “Causative-Passive sentences”.
(Ru-verb)
Drop “-ru” and add “-saserareru“
食べる ⇒ 食べさせられる
お母さんに、野菜を食べさせられた。
I was forced to eat vegetables by my mother.
(U-verb)
Drop “-u” and add “-asareru”
行く ⇒ 行かされる
お兄ちゃんに、アイスクリームを買いに行かされた。
I was forced to go and buy ice cream by my brother.
(U-verbs ending with す）
Drop “-su” and add “-saserareru”
話す ⇒ 話させれらる
友達に彼女について話させられた。
I was forced by my friend to talk about my girlfriend.
(Irregular verbs)
する ⇒ させられる
私はお母さんに、勉強をさせられた。
I was forced by my mother to study (my mother made me study).
くる ⇒ こさせられる
私は友達に、パーティーにこさせられた。
I was forced to come to the party by my friend.

First, let’s practice making the causative-passive form.
(Ru-verb) Drop ”-ru” and add “-saserareru”
食べる (to eat) ー食べさせられる
見る (to look) ー見させられる
開ける (to open)ー開けさせられる
(U-verb) Drop “-u” and add “-asareru”
書く(to write) ー書かされる
読む(to read)ー読まされる
泳ぐ(to swim)ー泳がされる
買う(to buy)ー買わされる
立つ(to stand)ー立たされる
取る(to take)ー取らされる
遊ぶ(to play) ー遊ばされる
(Verbs ending in “す”) Drop “-su” and add “-saserareru”
話す(to talk)ー話させられる
貸す(to lend) ー貸させられる
消す(to erase)ー消させられる
減らす (to reduce)ー減らさせられる

(a) I made Daniel read Japanese dialogue.
私は、ダニエルくんに日本語の会話を読ませた。
(b) I was forced by Hanako Sensei to read Japanese dialogue.
僕は、花子先生に日本語の会話を読ませられた。
(a) I made my older son play with my younger son.
私は、お兄ちゃんに弟と遊ばせた。
(b) I was made by my mother to play with my little brother.
僕は、お母さんに弟と遊ばせれらた。
*This sentence sounds much more awkward in English than in Japanese. You can think of these sentences being equivalent to saying “My mother made me play with my little brother.”
(a) I made my boyfriend to watch my favorite movie, “Beauty and Beast”.
私は、彼に私の大好きな映画、”美女と野獣”を観せた。
(b) I was forced by my girlfriend to watch my most hated movie, “Beauty and Beast”.
僕は、彼女に、僕の大嫌いな映画、”美女と野獣”を観させられた。
はい、来週は新しい”中級・上級クラス”の第１週目です！
