この中級・上級クラスは、マイケルさんと言う登場人物を使って会話を勉強します。
In this intermediate and advanced class, we will use a character named Michael to study conversation.
日本語には、男性の言葉、女性の言葉、上司に話す言葉、友達に話す言葉、お客さんに話す言葉、と、相手によってだいぶ言葉が変わります。
The words we use in Japanese change significantly depending on speaker, such as whether or not it is a man or a woman, and depending on listener, such as whether or not it is a boss, a customer, or a friend.
マイケルさんは男性の言葉を話すので、男性の方はマイケルさんがどう言う風に話しているのか、聞いてください。
Micheal speaks Japanese for men, so please pay attention to how he speaks and what kind of grammar he uses.
マイケルさんの奥さん、女性の同僚も登場するので、その中で女性がどのように話すのか、女性の方は勉強してください。
Micheal’s wife and female coworker will also take part in the conversation, so be sure to pay attention to how they speak as well.
平等ではないな、と思うのは、最近は女性も男性のように話すことが多いので、女性はどちらで話してもいいけれど、男性は女性の言葉を話せません。
I don’t think it’s fair that recently, women can speak a more manly Japanese while men still cannot acceptably use a more feminine Japanese.

今日は、Genki 2で勉強した”〜から、〜し”、を復習しながら、会話を勉強します。

から
To give the reason for something, we can use the conjunction から
[reason] から [situation]
どうして、日本に行かないんですか？
Why aren’t you going to Japan?
休みが取れないから、日本に行けない。
I can’t take a vacation, so I can’t go to Japan.
〜し
When you want to mention not just one but two or more reasons, you can use し instead of から。
休みが取れないし、お金がないし、日本に行けない。
I can’t take a vacation, and I don’t have the money, so I can’t go to Japan.
How to form conjugation
(1) Verb – short form + し
(2) い-adjective – おもしろい + し
(3) な-adjectives 好きだ + し
(4) Noun + です 学生だ + し

The above examples are for casual Japanese.
If you talk with your boss, you need to add “です”, as in “です＋し”

Three months ago when Micheal and his family moved to Japan
マイケル：やっと日本への引っ越しも落ち着いたね。これから仕事はどうやって見つけたらいいんだろう？
Micheal: We have finally settled down in Japan. Now, how should I find a job?
日本の会社で働いたことないし、アメリカ人だし、仕事があるかな？
I’ve never worked at a Japanese company, and I’m also an American. Is there a job for me?
ひろみ（妻）：とりあえず、人材派遣会社に登録しないといけないでしょう。
Hiromi (wife): First of all, you should register with a human resource company.
マイケル：そうか。どこの人材派遣会社がいいんだろう？
Micheal: I see. Which human resource company is best?
ひろみ：Doda（デューダ）という人材派遣会社は、あなたのようなエンジニアの仕事のリストがたくさんあるらしいよ。
Hiroi: I heard the HR company Doda has a lot of job lists for engineers like you.
日本では、エンジニアが足りなくて困っているらしいよ。だから、実力さえあれば、外国人でもいい給料で仕事が見つかるらしいよ。
I’ve heard that companies in Japan are struggling to find engineers, so as long as they are competent, even foreigners can find jobs with a good salary.
マイケル：デューダ？ウエブアドレス知ってる？
Micheal: Doda? Do you know the web address?
ひろみ：https://doda.jp だよ。
Hiromi: It’s https://doda.jp.
マイケル：そうか。まずは、人材派遣会社に登録だね。
MIcheal: I see. So first, register with the HR company.
ひろみ：マイケルは頭がいいし、エンジニアだし、きっといい仕事があるよ。がんばって。
Hiromi: You’re smart, and an engineer. I’m sure you’ll find a good job. Do your best!
