日本語には、ブラインドデートという言葉がありません。
The term “Blind date” does not exist in Japanese.
言うとしたら、「友達の紹介」ですね。
If we say it, it could be “Introducing a friend.”
アメリカでこの言葉を聞いた時、「なかなか、上手いこと言うな。」と関心しました。
When I heard “Blind date” for the first time in America, I thought, “Blind date fits well!”
直訳だと、「見えないデート」ですよね。
The direct translation would be “Date without looking”.
日本のお見合いや、マッチングサイトではまず最初に写真を見ると思いますが、友達紹介の場合は、あまり写真は見せないんでしょうか。
I think people exchange their pictures for “Omiai (arranged marriage)” or dating sites, though, for blind date, they don’t seem exchange their pictures.
日本では馴染みの無い言葉ですが、最近は海外のドラマや映画などからわかる人もいるようです。
People are not familiar with the word “Blind date” in Japan. However, people are beginning to familiarize themselves with “blind dates” from foreign dramas or movies.
今日は、マイケルが友達のたけしさんを、会社の同僚のあきこさんに紹介する、と言う設定です。
Today’s setting is, Michael introduces his friend Takeshi to his coworker Akiko.
少しづつ仲よくなっていくと、敬語からもうちょっとカジュアルな日本語になっていくところを注意してみてください。
Please notice that as they bond more, their Japanese shifts from formal to casual.
二人の仲がうまくいくといいですね！

<Volitional form よう＞
The volitional form of a verb is a less formal, more casual equivalent of ましょう.
You can use it to suggest a plan to a close friend, for example.
Let’s eat!
食べるー 食べましょう！ (formal)
食べよう！(Casual）
How to conjugate
<Ru-verb>
Drop the final –る and add – よう
Ex.) 食べる (eat) ー食べ よう
<U-verb>
Drop the final -u and add -ou
Ex.) 行く iku (go) ー 行こう ikou
<Shall we? – ようか？>
You can use the volitional plus the question particle か to ask for an opinion in your offer or suggestion.

以前、マイケルが、友達のたけしと同僚のあきこさんのためにブラインドデートをセットアップすることになったのを覚えていますか？
Do you remember that Michael is setting up a blind date for his friend Takeshi and his coworker Akiko?
そして、マイケルは、妻のひろみとたけしとあきこさんと渋谷のハチ公前で待ち合わせすることにしました。
Then, Michael and his wife Hiromi will meet up with Takeshi and Akiko in front of Hachiko statue in Shibuya.

マイケル：たけしとあきこさん、もう来てるかな？１時にハチ公前で待ち合わせにしたんだけど。
Michael: Are Takeshi and Akiko here already? I told them to meet us at 1 o’clock in front of Hachiko Statue though.
ひろみ：まだ12時50分だから、これから来るんじゃない？
Hiromi: It’s still 12:50pm. They are probably coming soon.
あきこ：あ、マイケルー！
Akiko: Oh Michael!
マイケル：あ、あきこさん！
Michael: Oh Akiko san!
あきこ: 奥様ですか？初めまして、マイケルさんの同僚のあきこです！マイケルさんにはいつも会社でお世話になっています。
Akiko: You must be Michael’s wife. Nice to meet you. I am his coworker, Akiko. Michael has treated me well at work.
ひろみ：はじめまして、あきこさん。こちらこそ、お世話になります。マイケルが入社した時には色々と助けていただいたようで、あきこさんのお話は聞いています。
Hiromi: Nice to see you, Akiko san. Likewise, thank you too. Michael talks about you a lot since he appreciates your support when he just started working at the company.
たけし：マイケルー！
Takeshi: Michael!
マイケル：あ、たけし！
Michael: Oh, Takeshi!
たけし：ひろみさん、お久しぶり！変わっていないね、元気？ あ、あきこさんですか？はじめまして、たけしと言います。
Takeshi: Hiromi san, long time no see you! You haven’t changed at all. How are you? Oh are you Akiko? Nice to see you. I am Takeshi.
あきこ：はじめまして、たけしさん。明子と言います。
Akiko: Nice to see you, Takeshi san. I am Akiko.
マイケル：じゃあ、みんな集まったから、レストランに行こうか！1時15分に予約を取っているから。
Michael: Then, everyone is here. Shall we go to the restaurant? I made a reservation at 1:15pm.
ー フランス料理のお店に到着 ー
They arrived at a French restaurant.
ひろみ：今日は、子供たちを預けてフランス料理レストランにこれて、うれしいわー。
Hiromi: I am happy that I could come to this French restaurant while my mom takes care of our kids.
たけし：子供3人といつも一緒だと、やっぱり大変だよね。
Takeshi: It’s hard job to be with three kids all the time, isn’t it?
ひろみ：そうね！たまには子供なしで外出したいわよねー。今日はたけしくんとあきこさんに感謝だわ。
Hiromi: Right! I sometimes want to go out without them. I appreciate you guys, Takeshi and Akiko.
あきこ：こちらこそ、お忙しいところありがとうございます！
Akiko: Same here. Thank you for your time when you are busy.
たけし：あきこさんは、会社ではどんなお仕事をされているんですか？
Takeshi: What kind of job do you do at work?
あきこ：わたしは、総務で働いています。マイケルが入社した時に、いろいろな手続きを手伝っているうちに仲よくなったんです。たけしさんは？
Akiko: I work at General Affairs Department. I became friend with Michael when he joined our company and I supported him to do paper work.
たけし：ぼくは、日本銀行で企業向けのローン融資の仕事をしています。
Takeshi: I work with commercial loan financing at Japanese Bank.
あきこ：そうなんですか！半沢直樹ですね!
Akiko: Is that right. You are Naoki Hanzawa (*) then. (*Title of Japanese drama).
たけし：あはは。そうですね。あのドラマみたいに、ストレスは溜まっていますね〜。
Takeshi: hahaha. Right. I am so stressed out with my job like that drama.
あきこ：お休みの時は、何をしているんですか？
Akiko: What do you to on the weekend.
たけし：ゴルフに行ったり、映画を見たりしています。あきこさんは？
Takeshi: I go play golf or watch a movie. How about you, Akiko?
あきこ：あ、わたしも同じ！ゴルフと映画が趣味です。
Akiko: Oh me too! My hobby is to play golf and watch movies.
たけし：そうなんだ！じゃあ、今度ぜひ、一緒にゴルフか映画に行きましょう！
Takeshi: Is that so? Then, let’s play golf or watch a movie together next time!
