日本語の知識があっても、意外となんて言えばいいか分からないってことがよくあります。
Even if you have decent knowledge of Japanese, there are some conversations which are difficult for you.
私の娘は今日本に遊びに来ています。アメリカの大学生ですが、日本語は流暢に話します。
My daughter is visiting Japan now. She is a college student in America, though, she speaks Japanese fluently.
しかし、日本に住んだことはないので、なんと言えばいいか分からない、ということが結構あります。
However, she has not lived in Japan, so there are cases she does not know how to say something.
（１）服を試着して、それがやっぱり欲しくない時は何といえば失礼じゃないのか。
How can she say “No” without being rude when she does not want to buy clothes after trying it out?
（２）コンビニで探しているものが見つからない時に手伝ってもらう言い方
How to ask for help when she can’t find something at convenience store?
（３）駅で迷った時の聞き方
How to ask for directions when she’s lost at station.
（４）美容院で自分がしたいヘアスタイルの伝え方
How to request the hair style she wants at a hair salon.
（５）薬の名前（頭痛薬、風邪薬、など）
The name of medicine (Pain killer / cold medicine, etc).
それぞれ決まり文句がありますから、日本語の意味がわかっても言い方が変、ということを彼女は気にしています。
She worries that she looks weird even if Japanese people understand what she says since there are many appropriate set phrases.
今度HWだらだらクラブで、「トラベル日本語」をするのもいいアイディアですよね。
I think it’s good idea to work on “travel Japanese” for HW dara-dara club next time.

Let’s review a bit!
First let’s review about “Ru-verb” and “U-verb”.
＜Ru-verb＞Verb ends with “Iru Eru”sounds
Example, 食べる、起きる、覚える、
Just drop “る”- 食べ、起き、覚え、
And add “ます”
＜U-verb＞
Other than “Iru,Eru” sounds
歩く、住む、呼ぶ、
Change “U” sound into “I” sound.
歩き、住み、呼び、
（１）歩くU
（２）住むU
（３）呼ぶU
（４）見るRu
（５）する irregular
（６）言う u
（７）覚える ru
（８）使う u
（９）借りる ru
（１０）勉強する irregular

Verb stem + たい （です）ー I want to do…
I want to eat . 食べ + たい（です）
I want to walk. 歩き + たい（です）
I want to study. 勉強し + たい（です）
（１）歩くU I want to walk 歩きたい
（２）住むU I want to live in Tokyo 東京に住みたい
（３）呼ぶU I want to call you 呼びたい
（４）見るRu I want to see it それを見たい
（５）する irregular I want to do it それをしたい
（６）言う u I want to say it. それを言いたい
（７）覚える ru I want to memorizes hiragana ひらがなを覚えたい
（８）使う u I want to use it. それを使いたい
（９）借りる ru I want to borrow it. それを借りたい
（１０）勉強する irregular I want to study Japanese. 日本語を勉強したい
A verb that takes the particle をcan have either the particle を or が when it is followed by たい。Particle other than を remain the same.
（１）I want to たい（です）
（２）I don’t want to たくない（です）
（３）I wanted to たかった（です）
（３）I did not want to たくなかった（です）
（４）Jennifer said she wanted to go to Japan ジェニファーは、日本に行きたい、と、言っていました。
（１）歩くU I don’t want to walk 歩きたくない
（２）住むU I don’t want to live in Tokyo 東京に住みたくない
（３）呼ぶU I don’t want to call you 呼びたくない
（４）見るRu I wanted to see it それを見たかった
（５）する irregular I wanted to do it それをしたかった
（６）言う u I didn’t want to say it. それを言いたくなかった
（７）覚える ru I didn’t want to memorize hiragana ひらがなを覚えたくなかった
（８）使う u Hanako said she wanted to use it. 花子は、それを使いたい、と 言っていました。
（９）借りる ru Micheal said he wanted to borrow it. マイケルは、それを借りたい、と 言っていました。
（１０）勉強する irregular I wanted to study Japanese. 日本語を勉強したかった
