日本では、外国の免許証を日本の免許証に変えることができます。
In Japan, you can replace your foreign driver license to a Japanese driver license.
私以外は、全員外国人でした。というか、私も書類上は外国人ですが。
All of them were non-Japanese except me. Actually, I am a foreigner on paper.
免許センターのスタッフは、英語は全く話せませんので、お互い会話するのが難しそうでした。
The staff at Department of Motor Vehicle in Japan can’t speak English at all, so it seemed difficult for them to communicate.
英語を話せない人も多いですから、英語を話せても通じないこともあります。
There are many non-Japanese who can’t speak English, so even if they speak English, they can’t communicate all the time.
スタッフは日本語があまりわからない人には、カジュアルな日本語、赤ちゃんに話すような日本語、で話していました。
The staff speak in casual Japanese that is like baby talk to people who don’t understand Japanese well.
カジュアル日本語の方がわかりやすいからだと思いますが、そういうのを聞くのは私は悲しいですね。
I guess it’s because casual Japanese is easier to understand for them, though, it’s sad for me to hear that.
尊敬語や謙譲語は使わないとしても、せめて丁寧語、です、ます、の言葉を使って欲しいです。
Even if they don’t use honorific or humble Japanese, I want them to use polite Japanese using desu or masu.
みなさんは上級レベルなので、そのスタッフもカジュアル日本語は使わないと思います。日本語勉強頑張ってくださいね！
Since your Japanese is advanced level, I think those staff won’t use casual Japanese. Keep studying Japanese!

We use the word 時 to describe when something happens or happened

日本に行った時、富士山に登りました。
When I visited Japan, I climbed Mt. Fuji.
The sentence A always ends with a short form, either in the present tense or the past tense.
When you speak in formal Japanese, “keigo”, you should use short form as well.
Ex.)
Casual – 尊敬語 (honorific) ー謙譲語 (humble)
住む (to live) ーお住みになるー住んでおる
住んだ (lived) ーお住みになったー住んでおった
住んでいる (is living) ー住んでいらっしゃるー住んでおる

マイケルさんは、緊張しながら会社に着きました。
Michael was nervous as he arrived at the company.
受付：はい、ABCエネルギーです。
Receptionist: Yes, this is ABC Energy.
マイケル：本日２時に面接のお約束をさせていただいております、マイケルと申します。
Michael: My name is Michael, I have an appointment at 2pm.
人事ご担当の田中様にお取り次ぎをお願いいたします。
Would you please call Mr. Tanaka at HR depratment.
受付：かしこまりました。こちらで、少々お待ちください。お名前をお呼びしましたら、お部屋にお入りください。

Michael: I was a pipe architect for plants at a gas company.

Tanaka: I see. Our company is looking for someone who is able to design pipse for electricity. I think you will be able to do it.
