来週からもう４月ですね〜。今日本では桜が満開です。
It’s April from next week! Sakura have fully blossomed in Japan now.
日本の母が家の周りの桜の写真を送ってくれました。
My mom sent me picture of sakura around the house.
日本はいろんなことが４月から始まります。
In Japan, many events start in April.
学校も４月から始まりますし、会社の決算期末も３月が多く、４月から新しい決算期が始まります。
Schools start in April, the fiscal year end at most Japanese Companies is March, then, new fiscal year starts in April.
日本では、桜の咲く春から夏に向かって何もかも新しくスタート、という雰囲気なのですが、アメリカは学校が始まるのも８月、９月からですよね。
In Japan, new event starts in spring when sakura blossoms, and going toward summer, however, new school year starts in August or September in USA.
どんどん日も短くなって行く秋に何で新しいことを始めるんだろう、と不思議です。やはり夏休みが長いからでしょうか。
I wonder why new things starts in fall when the daylight is getting shorter. Is it because the summer break is long?
日本の夏休みは、だいたい７月２５日から８月３１日の５週間です。
Summver break in Japan generally starts aroned July 25, then, ends on August 31, that is five weeks.

それでは今日は、Passive Sentences (受動態) を勉強します！
(1) 能動態（のうどうたい）active sentences
I eat chocolate.
私は、チョコレートを食べます。
(2) 受動態（じゅどうたい）Passive sentences
My chocolate was eaten by my sister. (Passive sentence)
私のチョコレートは、妹 に(by) 食べられました。
* Genki Book emphasizes dissatisfaction using the passive sentence, however, we use the passive sentences for favorable events as well.
I was asked out by her for a date.
私は、彼女 に デート に 誘われました。
*Please note how to use particle に
(1) Ru-verb
Drop る and add られる
食べる ー 食べ られる
Past tense- 食べられた
Masu form -食べられます
* Please note that it’s same as “Potential form”, however, most Japanese omit ら (ら抜き言葉）for the potential form but not for “Passive form”.
私のケーキが食べられた。
My cake was eaten.
お母さん、このケーキ古いけど、まだ食べれる？
Mom, this cake is old, though, can I still eat it? (Is it edible?)
Most Japanese say 食べれる, not 食べられる although 食べられる is grammatically correct.
(2) U-verb
Drop final -u and add -are-ru
読むー読まれる
Yomu – yom-areru
Past tense- 読まれた
Masu form -読まれます
Potential form of 読むis 読める、not 読まれる。
私の日記が兄に読まれた。
My diary was read by my older brother.
この日本語の本、読める？

Then, I was asked to be her boyfriend by her.
